Thank the gods I finished this perfectly dreadful novel. Drying paint has a higher entertainment value. I am tempted to award a 2nd star if for no other reason than the novel at least accurately portrays this period of history which is filled with the inane concerns of the British class and rank system, along with the bland lives that women were forced to endure.

I just love jane austen and her for this time witty writing style. Nothing like pride and prejudice but it was a really nice read. Probably one of the first second chance romance books ever.
And captain westworth had something mr.-darcy-esque to him. His letter was just so damn sweet! ♥️

It is always a pleasure to immerse ourselves in Jane Austen's work, especially its original English version!
I like this author. However, Persuasion didn't pardon the pun; it persuaded me. I found that one slipped on the plot without going into the deep feelings of Anne Elliot, who is supposed to be the main character.
I say "supposed" because the young woman is ultimately not put forward. She is present throughout the novel but only exists concerning the other characters. Her own love story only comes in the last chapters.
Maybe that's what disappointed me about this book. Still, perhaps it was also Jane Austen's goal to show how young girls in 19th-century English society only exist through their social condition and the place that their male entourage is willing to grant it.
The writing is still relatively fluid, and the novel is without too many lengths (even if, it must admit, not much is happening).
It was a pleasant reading, especially the "British 19th-century" side.

I worked to finish this book out of sheer spite and desire to improve my reading comprehension. I read this book because I wanted something AP Literature-esque and it did not disappoint. The whole time, it felt like I was reading a historical SAT passage. Not that it’s a bad thing! Not the type of book I read for fun but was enjoyable, especially the juicy bits. It was nice to read something written in a different style. This is the first of Austen’s work I’ve read so I don’t have anything else to compare it to.
