The Déjà Glitch

2.5 stars- I have read a few time loop stories over the last year or so and this one, although it had an interesting take on the trope, it was by far my least favorite. This book was classified as a romance, but the main characters weren’t actually in the book together all that much. The guy is already “in love”, and you don’t get the experience of them falling in love. I don’t feel like I got to know much about him at all. The main character was not as likeable as she could have been because of how she treated her brother (insisting he go from flight to flight even though it was obvious he needed to rest) and the way she treated Jack. She knew and believed enough about his situation-being stuck in a loop for months- but didn’t do all she could to help. It was a single day of her life. If she believed him at all a decent person would do all she could to help him, especially considering the “pull” she felt towards him. She had a bad breakup a year before with a total villain of a man, but it still seemed to run her life all that time later. She ran completely hot and cold with Jack and you only understand that he keeps trying because his life depends on it (although the book tries to insist it’s because he’s fallen in love after having eight dates with her where he’s is a stranger to her every time.
One thing this book does throughout that is a pet peeve of mine is that every time two characters are having a conversation, there are sentences or paragraphs of internal dialogue before the next line of dialogue. I just want to skip forward so the characters are speaking at a normal pace.
I think this book had a lot of potential, but disappointingly was more a so-so women’s fiction with elements of romance and the supernatural.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton Publishing for providing me access to this eARC for my honest opinion!

A time loop romance that definitely gets you routing for Gemma & Jack to find love & each other! Gemma is a radio producer who starts her day as she always does, but can't help but get that niggling feeling of Deja vu. Until she literally crashes into Jack who tells her they've been stuck in a time loop for months, and she has no memory of it! They set off on a unsteady, but increasingly urgent journey to find answers and hopefully fall in love along the way in an effort to finally break the loop! I really enjoyed the book and found the time loop still original. I really wanted them to find each other and could easily see this as a film!

I was skeptical about a time loop story- this one wasn’t so bad.

What can I say…I’m a sucker for a time loop, any chance I get I will devour a book with a time loop to be able to see people finally get what they’re supposed to get right…well right. The Déjà Glitch by Holly James really didn’t disappoint and if you’re ready to suspend reality and you enjoy the time loop trope like me, then this is definitely the book for you. I enjoyed how the author took a different approach with her time loop story and instead of seeing the same day repeated over and over with different variations to get the characters unstuck, we meet Jack and Gemma when they’ve already repeated their day numerous times and Jack feels like he has this one final shot to get it all right and stop the time loop for good. Overall, this was a fun read, and my first by Holly James.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Holly James and PENGUIN GROUP Dutton for giving me the opportunity to read this book!

Thank you Dutton books for an ARC of Deja Glitch

This was my first time loop book and it totally did not disappoint! Jack and Gemma, specially, are stuck with a lot of issues in life that they can’t seem to get past to the point they see themselves in this crazy time loop that has been going for the span of several days.

I loved that even though meet and fall in love in a day seems far fetched, the author built really well their relationship isn’t he span of a day to make it feel even like a slow burn hahaha

Interestingly, Jack is conscious of the time loop and is trying his hardest to have Gemma remember him, she, on the other hand, is so over her had regarding her job, family relationships and other insecurities that does not realize what’s going on until, with the help of Jack, start facing all her problems head on.

Overall it was such a fun book and I had a good time
