When I first started reading this book, I was concerned it would be too cheesy for me. Well, turns out I LOVE cheesy because I could not get enough and found myself SO invested in Jack and Gemma’s story. I can’t say what I would have done, or how I would have handled it if I were in her situation, but the hopeless romantic in me was rooting for them every step of the way.
I absolutely adored Holly James' debut Nothing But The Truth, so I knew I wanted to read her sophomore novel!
The Deja Glitch is a loveable time loop romance with a sprinkle of he fell first and shes a skeptic.
Gemma Peters is living her normal life, but she has a feeling she has lived these experiences before.. when getting her morning coffee, she bumps into a man and spills coffee all over herself. She doesn't know the man... or does she??? He tells her she does.. and that they've met 147 times before.
Jack is living the same day over and over again and believes that Gemma is part of the solution to get out of the time loop. He's lived the day 147 different ways, some things continue to happen, and some are brand new to this day.
Will Jack get out of the loop? Does Gemma help? Read this book to see!
I'm starting to think that I am a magical realism girlie?! This was a fun read of what will happen over the course of this day, and what changes are made. I recommend it to fans of Groundhogs Day! I love that Holly James is basically re-creating movies that I loved in more of a rom-com book way!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I thought Holly James was the pen name for another author, but that is not the case, and I can't believe I haven't read her before! I absolutely adored The Deja Glitch, and immediately put her debut on hold at the library after finishing it. This is the third time loop novel I have read in the past couple of weeks, and I was really satisfied with the uniqueness of it, so it didn't feel like I was reading the same story over again. I loved Gemma and Jack as well as Gemma's bestie Lila, and I could totally see this being made into a movie and being completely wonderful. Picoult's blurb on the book referred to this as a mix of Love Actually and Groundhog Day, and while I haven't watched Love Actually, I could see this being a spot-on comparison.
The audiobook for this was fantastic, and I thought Kristen DiMercurio & Dan Bittner both did an excellent job with their characters. The majority of The Deja Glitch is told from Gemma's viewpoint, so DiMercurio did end up narrating most of it and she nailed it. I thought she was perfect for Gemma, and she had just the right tone and pacing throughout. While this is a romance, there is also some family drama that we get thrown into, and though it didn't bring me to tears it was awfully close. There are some really great messages and characters in the novel and the end just made me so happy. Even though this isn't a holiday read it would be great to read around the holidays, and I loved every minute of it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I’m a sucker for a good old-fashioned time loop. I was pleasantly surprised when this one explored an aspect of a time loop that many people gloss over, what the person in the time loop is forgetting.
It also gets bonus points for using the Hollywood Bowl as a location.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun light read.

I love stories about time loops, so I was very interested in reading this one.
The synopsis gives away a spoiler, revealing what needs to happen for time to return to normal. I would have preferred to have the suspense until the end, although I understand that maybe it's precisely the reason why many will want to read it.
Jack and Gemma didn't know each other before, but now they've been stuck on the same day for months. She doesn't remember anything. He remembers everything... but he doesn't know why this is happening, nor why this girl seems to be the key to getting back to normal.
Every morning, the same day repeats itself. They meet by chance and have only 24 hours to try to find a way to break free. I was very intrigued as to how they would do this. How would you react if you had such a tight deadline to explain to someone what's going on, convince that person that this crazy thing is true, and create a deep connection? And how would you react if you thought that this was just another normal day in your life and, suddenly, you met an unknown guy who knows very personal things about you?
I have a really hard time with books where the characters fall in love too quickly. I'm in the slow-burn team. While following the events of this day in their lives was enjoyable, I questioned whether it was possible to feel such intense emotions for someone you just met.
I understand that the book's main focus was on this day, but I would have liked to see a few more previous encounters as well.
Overall, it was a good read that made me reflect on how certain decisions can affect our lives so much, taking us in different directions and sometimes leaving us feeling like we're in a time loop. It's hard to talk about it without giving away spoilers, but if you read it just for the romance, you might find the story cute. However, if you take a moment to think about moments and conversations in your life that would make you relive the same day, then I think you'll understand the message.
Thanks to Dutton for the ARC!
