A wonderful book; well done Mr. Dolkart! Overall it was definitely better than the first in my opinion. (I don't discuss major plot points in a detailed way, but some things may or may not be spoiled in the review)

Dealing with the characters, this book strongly improved because there was development from the first book (development that I would have liked to see within it, but to be fair, the first book's character interactions were not stagnant by any means). Narky, once they all split, was able to explore his character's potential more freely and what a development on his end! A wonderful direction that I never saw coming and Narky couldn't have been written better given the circumstances. Hunter and Phaedra also had a dynamic that I really liked as well as Criton and Narky at the end. This brings me to Criton and Bandu. I personally did not like reading about their interactions particularly on the side of Bandu. If the first book proved that she had intelligence and reason, this one seemed to remove the reason from her for me. All of their problems could have been solved had they actually tried to find a solution and not shut down, but Bandu did not bend, and when one does not bend, they will break. Hopefully, Bandu will learn the importance of bending in the next book because this is a lesson that she sorely needs to learn. The ending "adventure" she had was the best part of her section of the story, I loved it!

The story and the world is as stunning as in the first one and even more engrossing since I'd read the first book, giving me the basic rulebook of the world. I highly recommend this series and I can't see anything going wrong in the next book (or two, or three); Mister Dolkart has a solid grasp of narration in a style that mixes a third person view limited to the titular character of the chapter as well as some of their thought process bleeding through into the narration itself (not italicized), giving rise to the semblance of eight or nine different characters telling you the story in the third person while adding some "color commentary"; this is quite entertaining! Again, this is a wonderful read and I can't wait for the next one!

An enjoyable and refreshing story. Sometimes I feel important events happen way too fast in the novel, but still I enjoy the overall story.

Man I'm gonna have to DNF this @ page 84.

:/

I might come back later, but every time I open this book, I feel out of place and can't connect to or visualize anything. I'm sad cause I loved these characters, but they're goin back to the library for now.
