DNF. This book is aptly named because forever is the approximate amount of time I felt like it would take to finish it! The premise is interesting but there are far, far too many details and pages.

Read for a book club, Forever is a history of Manhattan for 250 years from the mid 1700s. It is written through the eyes of one person who witnesses the main events which shaped New York City. Very wll done and engaging, the 600+ pages fly by.

Gripping throughout the whole book. Couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The story is told through the ages of NY as a growing city. I love historical fiction and this was perfect.

I loved the first half of this book. Completely lost interest when it reached the modern day. The ending also seemed rushed and flat.

While there's interesting stuff in here there's also major structural and pacing problems in my opinion. 2.5/5

The basis of this book was good....someone living through the history of New York City. I just think that it was way too long. I loved this book in the first 300-400 pages and then found it much less interesting. It could be because it seemed like the time in the last 200 pages or so was too recent and a time I have lived through, therefore not needing to be explained as thoroughly.

Would have given this 5 stars had it not taken me actual forever to read it. Worth it, but jeeeesus. So good though, emotional and rewarding and kind of a masterpiece. Also I just super love New York.

I missed where Tony Warren had a son? That drove me nuts until the 9/11 part which drove me nuts. I'll finish it because I started it but I do not recommend it.
And he was supposed to live his life and he was always moaning about the water why didn't HE become a leader instead of just a nameless cog in the machinery?

Some of it was quite long-winded and I could have done without the exhaustive time in Ireland. However, overall it was fascinating. I loved seeing the history of New york through this character and the challenges he faced.
