Ehhhh good
Like it. Te amo Wren. Oak...
Ojalá no me decepcione...

a runaway queen.
a reluctant prince.
and a quest that may destroy them both.

the story centres around wren, oak and their quest.

i adored wren, she is tough and quick-thinking. after reading her story she quickly became one of my comfort characters.
i also loved oak way too much. he’s… interesting. dude has more layers than an onion. he’s a greenbriar who grew up with jude and it definitely shows.

their dynamic was fun to read. them not trusting each other and at the same time being attracted to one another was entertaining, but i need to know what is going on inside oak’s mind. i wish we got a dual pov.

holly black’s writing never disappoints. i love how she always describes every detail in a way that makes picturing her fantasy world so easy.

overall, i enjoyed reading this and being back in elfhame, even if it didn’t live up to the original series.

I was reading this because I loved reading "The Cruel Prince" by the same author and I have to say this book didn't disappoint. Left me on a good cliffhanger. This Review is for myself, since it contains spoilers and written in a way that I understand. If you read it, then don't be surprised if you don't get

!!SPOILER!!
Oak together with Tiernan, seeks out Wren, the runaway queen, they are both now older since they last saw each other. Lady Nore, Wren's mother has stolen the ancient queen Mab's bones, that can create creatures. Because Wren has the power to command Lady Nore, Oak asks her to help him save his dad from Lady Nore's prison. They travel to Court of Moths to talk to the ancient fairy with, Thistlewitch. There they almost have to get help from Queen Annet to navigate their way through the svamp. Queen Annet takes control over their prisoner, a soldier named Hyacinthe, who has turned into a falcon that's a curse put on by the High Queen Jude. He is half falcon though, because Oak isn't able to break the curse fully, but when Wren let's him get out of the prison she also breaks his curse and he pledges his loyalty for her forever. (Side note: Tiernan and he are lovers..turned enemies but still in love with each other greatly). Hyacinthe escapes, Queen Annet gets to know who helped the prisoners escape, there are other prisoners she helps escape, a marrow and a human named Gwen. Oak fights in a duel to take Wren with him, and wins because he has always learned how to fight by swiftly killing someone. He wins, they continue their journey to the Thistlewitch.
The Thistlewitch tells them a story about the origin och Mab's powers and the weakness that it has, which is Mellith's heart, only Oak gets to know where Melliths heart is. He then tells Wren he doesn't want her to follow them up to the Court of Teeths, she insists on following with them. The Storm hag comes and tells her that he is gonna give her in exchange for her father. She tries to escape him while taking the bridle, but he swiftly steals it back and she comes back to him. They reach the Court of Teeths and get captured by Lady Nore, and Oak tells him he's got Melliths heart with him. Wren realises that he is talking about her heart, because the storm hag tells her how she was born out of sticks and ice, and she realises that the storm hag put in her child's heart inside of her, thus her having Melliths heart. She becomes angry, takes control over Lady Nore, and everything in the Court of Teeth, kills Lady Nore just by wishing it. She takes Oak into prisoner and lets everyone else go, Madoc, Tiernan and so on. The book basically ends with her taking over Court of Teeths and imprisoning Oak for his betrayal.
