Weirdo

Cathi Unsworth

So, I stand corrected. I started this book, got a quarter of the way through, and found myself thinking it was a bit predictable. Enjoyable, but a very standard murder mystery that would follow a very standard tale. Instead, it introduced a few unexpected twists & turns, and while it didn't hold a lot of surprises, it did hold a few. It's a clever narrative, split between the past and the present, slowly revealing bits and pieces of the story as it draws you along. Not bad at all.

I couldn't put this book down, it offered far more than i had expected, twists and turns and constant suspense. Just when i thought it couldn't throw any thing else into the mix, there is was. This was my first time reading Cathi Unsworth, i look forward to reading plenty more.

A little tawdry to begin with, but gripping and encompassing after about half way. I loved the constant shift back and forth between mid-80's and mid-00's, and how well they were both described. How the characters grew between the times too.

I also really liked that the victim wasn't revealed for such a long time, that really heightened the suspense - that it could have been almost anyone of a group.

All the little side plots were intriguing too, how each character in this little seaside town was connected.

Very good read.

Välskriven, men alldeles för lång. Störande översättningsmiss av "tea" i betydelsen middag, till te. Varför skulle de dricka te i väntan på te?

Twisty story, and the twist in the tale is a good un.

Corinne Woodrow was convicted of murder of a schoolmate when she was 15, in 1984. She was an outsider in the community and now, 20 years later, there's evidence that she might not have been alone. Sean Ward, whose career as a detective was cut short by a young man with a gun and now the metal in his leg reminds him of this constantly, investigates and what he stirs up, with the help of a local journalist, will change things in this small town.

Messy local politics, kept me reading and wanting more
