Briony. Briony. Briony. Briony. A symphonic ending akin to “Timshel.”
This book is an absolute affirmation. Of it all.

OH mate!
It took two weeks and travelling to a different country to finish this god-forsaken novel!
The first half was VERY similar to ‘The Go-Between’ which I really liked and, after reading the ending, the other half seemed superficial and superfluous.
Very rarely have I felt so bored with book. There were several pages where I could not be arsed to read what happened only to be met with recount from a different perspective. Christ sake! I wish I could appreciate the prose but I was so done with the plot 100 pages in that I had checked out.
I cared about none of the characters. None of the events intrigued me bar the main scandal. And halfway through (sort of a spoiler; read at your own risk) it becomes a story about a solider?!
The twist at the end felt like a copout! It felt unjust, lazy and self-serving! I cannot with Briony! I feel nothing but pity for Robbie and Cecilia.
I hate to say it but waste of my time. I do plan on watching the film; hopefully that shall redeem my appreciation of the novel…
