I cried three times while reading this.  So good and real.

I loved the first half (thought the character development, metaphors, themes of interpretation/seeing/subjectivity/storytelling, and tension building was great).

It fell apart a bit in the second half, and I got quite bored with the overly descriptive writing as the characters' lives diverge - if you love graphic descriptions of WW2 injuries, maybe this will be more your thing, but I want more from the relationships and people after the mic drop of a first half.

I did enjoy the ending, but it was too little too late at that point - I'd been deprived of passion and emotion for too long to get back into my feels.

The beginning of the book, in my opinion, was the best part of it. The rest was also amazing, but the first part had so many different perspectives and you were able to get to know the characters really well. The characters established in the first part are not as present through the rest of the book, which is unfortunate because I found characters such as Emily really interesting. I also enjoyed Brioneys pov the most throughout, even though technically we later find the entire book is her pov. She’s such a complex character that goes through so much growth. I think a lot of her mistakes come from her being so young and intelligent and having no where to channel it other then her imagination and her writing. This obviously backfires on her, as it completely warps a situation and turns an innocent person into a monster. She causes a lot of the damage to people she loves, but I just can’t see her as a villain (even though I don’t thinks she meant to be seen as one).
