Audiobook review: I never knew Wil as Wesley Crusher, because I never watched Star Trek, but he's one of my favorite people to watch or listen to, and I have a deep respect and even affection for him. It's his honesty first, but his passion, self-deprecating humor, and earnestness that make him so endearing. This was a very short book, but the stories made me laugh and get choked-up (and lose any respect I had for William F-ing Shatner). Very enjoyable. I'll be listening to more from him, for sure!

I thought I would follow up the two volume Italian epic with something nice and short, and this is indeed short. A lunchtime read, it's mostly warm but full of expected nostalgia and very mainstream life. Well, except for the Star Trek bits. I am told, though I do not quite believe it, that there are people who don't know a thing about Star Trek and have never been to a convention or met a rabid Trekkie.

Wil Wheaton claims to have met these people, but then, he moves in no doubt larger circles than I.

Anway, it is what it is. The last story section was the most interesting, being the Star-Trek centered one. I liked how he described going to the Las Vegas "Star Trek Experience". He really captured that yearning to visit a fictional place - or one's own past.

Five non-fiction stories from the life of Wheaton, originally published on his blog.

They are good, they are engaging and kept me turning the pages at a nice clip. If you like Wheaton, Star Trek, geek life, nerds or just good writing then I think you would enjoy this collection. Some of the stories contain Star Trek stories but most do not.

Recommended for certain people but not for everyone - I enjoyed it immensely.

I have been a big fan of [a:Wil Wheaton|37075|Wil Wheaton|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1356706649p2/37075.jpg] for many years (ok, there was that dark spot 20 years ago or so where he was basically invisible - but we wont go there). I even liked his character on ST:TNG.
I listen to his book [b:Just a Geek|6977415|Just a Geek|Wil Wheaton|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1255478397s/6977415.jpg|63710] just over a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. When he announced that his audio version of Dancing Barefoot was available, I purchased it straight away.

This IS a short book. It basically contains 5 extracts from his website. The narration was first class and as the stories were his own memories, the emotion was heart felt and is came across in the audio. The biggest story is his Star Trek one, however I remember reading this previously, but was good to have it on Audio form.

I appreciate that not everyone will like this audio. If you have read Just a Geek I would highly recommend you get this.

I’m usually not a fan of memoirs, if I read one it will be via audio and narrated by the author.

I picked this up because I thought it was going to be short stories written by Wil with a sci-if twist. I’ll also preface by saying I’ve never watched Star Trek or followed Wil’s journey.

The first four stories were fine, but the last story was by far my favourite. As someone who works in film, I know the nostalgia of working on a show for a year and then it disbanding. Everyone goes their separate ways, and what once was a meaningful and fun environment suddenly ceases to exist. Wil was able to capture the truth in how after a time you tend to remember more of the negative and forget the positive.

Thank you Wil for putting it into words.

I liked this a lot but of the short stories in this I loved the Star Trek one so much and laughed out loud. Then listing to this with Wil Wheaton as a narrator, is always a pleasure. Still well worth my time.

'Dancing Barefoot' is made up of five stories. The first four of which are short and interesting, but mediocre. The last is a touching, sweet, funny, and personal experience which makes up the bulk of the book. It relates Wil Wheaton's attendance of a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas in 2001 for the 35th anniversary. I really enjoyed it, and it makes me happy for his present day 'Geek Icon' success.
