I literally read this in one sitting because I was so intrigued to find out what happens and how it ended. I was disappointed with the ending though but still would recommend for others to read!

A story of isolation as a young woman finds herself confronted by a creature living on the mountain…while also trying to escape the human monster that’s kept her prisoner for years…

Near the Bone by Christina Henry is an isolationist thriller that probably could have done without an appearance by Bigfoot…

Mattie lives on the mountain in a cabin with her “husband” William. Her memory is fuzzy, and age doesn’t remember much from before her time there.

The life is tedious and hard…and William is cruel…and the monotonous life is disturbed when something new occurs…outsiders…both from up and down the mountain…

There strangers (cryptozoologists though they don’t provide any indication of experience of capability) arrive seeking Bigfoot…and encounter Mattie…

What follows is a desperate escape to try and get away from the murderous William and also avoid the powerful creature that might also be stalking them…

The story is told entirely from Mattie’s perspective and we learn things at the same pace as she does…including her lost memories.

Overall it’s pretty uninteresting though some of the action can be decent…

I put off reading this book for a while, oh my gosh big mistake. Absolutely fantastic horror novel, if you like isolation horror, female narratives, and the horrors of domestic life; this one is for you.
