Captivating murder mystery with a chilling subplot that seamlessly connects the dots.

This book has been on my shelf for 3 years and IDK why I just now picked it up! This is a fast paced, who-done-it that follows 2 different crimes taking place decades apart! Told from MPOV and the Guilty or Not Guilty podcast. The twist that was thrown at the end was like woah did not see that coming. This book had me gripped from the beginning and is a super easy read!

Rachel Krall has a successful true crime podcast and this season she's taking the podcast to court. In Neapolis, NC there's a trial set to start, a rape case. Her plan is to attend court each day, and then follow with a podcast episode "putting listeners in the jury box". Upon arriving in Neapolis she receives a letter from Hannah, a former resident who's since returned, and is looking to solve her sister's murder from decades before. At first she's creeped out by the letters, however she can't help but to follow up on the information Hannah divulges.

This was an absolutely incredible thriller! It kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not stop reading. It got to a point where I had to know how it ended.  I really liked the podcast sections and the dual pov.

I’ll admit, I flew through this book but part of that was because I wanted it to end. The topic of SA is very sensitive and difficult to discuss in a respectful way. While this book talked about it well in certain aspects, I was left in shock at how it talked about SA in other ways.  It seemed as though the author read a few articles about SA and got a basic understanding but not a complete understanding. The discussion of SA throughout the book felt shallow. I’d be very surprised if the author even talked to a survivor of sexual assault for this book. The author
portrays Kelly’s supporters as “man hating feminists” who are just as bad as the people supporting the rapist. The book seemed to sympathize with rapists on numerous occasions giving them past stories of trauma and abuse while not pushing back on how said abuse and trauma don’t excuse anything.  It was incredibly disappointing. On top of the failed discussion of SA, the book is riddled with continuity errors (ex. the judge somehow had no reversals in his record but later he suddenly had one) and bad grammar.
