At first I thought: okay another story that will end up with the world being conquered and we will all surrender. Hell I was so wrong, this book is so much more: love, fantasy, and so much more. The writing style is so much more different from the Twilight series and almost more intriguing. Stephenie really did an awesome job writing this book.

I‘m sorry, but nobody can convince me that this isn’t one of the greatest books ever. Ian and Wanda started the “Would you love me if I was a worm?” discourse. Nothing will ever compare to this book. Nothing will ever compare to the feelings I’ve come to experience.
I’ve been re reading this masterpiece since I was fourteen. And I will continue!!! My comfort book. Like ever.

Not as good as I remembered it from my first read in high school. Felt very slow this time around. My favorite part is the world building of the alien culture. Maybe SM made them communist-esque to make them seem scarier, but it just makes me like them more. Sure, they snatch our bodies, but they've healed all illness and abolished money? I'm in.

I really did love the background story of this novel; end of the world stories never get old, especially when there is a little bit of hope thrown into the mix. My only real problem with this book was the romance plot and how eerily similar it was to Twilight. Meyer should really try writing something that doesn't involve two men fighting over the same person (or body in this case). A very good read over all and I would most definitely recommend this book to others.

Unfortunately this was a hard book to get into. But when it was done I really hope that Stephenie writes a sequel. Seeing how the wanderer dealt with Melanie's thoughts on Jared and life in genenral. The Host was like an emotional roller coaster. This is a story to be read again and again. Of course Stephenie had to do another love triangle. lol But to see Ian change through the story too was touching.

really awesome concept and i wish she wrote more in this series to expand more on the lore, but my god was there a whole lot of nothing for a good majority of this book

I have SO MANY THOUGHTS!!! Read this book when I was a teenager and absolutely loved it. Since then I’ve seen the movie multiple times (it’s just ok) and was interested to see if the book would still hit the same way. The first half of the book was underwhelming, matched the movie pretty well and didn’t grasp my attention that much. BUT THE SECOND HALF!!! SO GOOD!!!! I love the world building descriptions of Wanda’s other lives and the relationship growth between Wanda and the other characters!

The one thing I gotta call out though is that Stephanie Meyer is literally addicted to writing inappropriate age gaps. Like why is the main character 17 and her love interest 26!!!???? YOU MADE THAT CHOICE STEPHANIE PLS!!!! And then at the end they put Wanda in a 16 year old child body and she tells them she’s 18??? Like there is no need for that! Anyways…

I think this book was a very enjoyable read! I did personally enjoy twilight more...not necessarily the quality of writing in consideration, but the story altogether. I think the characters in The Host were interesting, but i didn't care too much for any of the characters in particular...I think that would be why this isn't a favorite book of mine. Melanie, Jamie, Jared, Jeb, etc. are all relatable characters but not necessarily super memorable. I think Jared and Jamie had the most memorable personalities. Without me really falling in love with a character, the book is only mediocre(in my opinion).

In truth, I was planning to read this a long time ago; thinking that it looked really good and sounded really good. But now that I've read it, I'm really disappointed. The preview thing in the flap sounded really good(though I had to re-read it like 4 times to get it). With the whole thing with human bodies being invaded by 'souls' and such. Though I was hesitant to read this to begin with because towards the end of the summary/preview thing it says,

"Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love."

That part had me re-reading it a few times,to decide whether I was going to read the book or not; which I did ended up reading. I honestly really like love triangles and all but I prefer it only when 2 guys fall for 1 girl, not when 2 girls fall for 1 guy.

After reading about 60 pages, I contemplated several times to just quite reading this book, but I just hate quitting on a book and it's been a while since I've read such a big book, even though this big book isn't quite as good. Another reason as to why I didn't stop reading this was because I was really curious what was going to happen when Melanie and Wanderer/Wanda find Jared, Jamie, and Uncle Jeb. *Confessing time, I skimmed through several paragraphs to get to some dialogue and action, because so many parts were soo boring!!

I thought that numerous parts and me really confuse and having to re-read a few pages again or look back at some parts to get what just happened. But it got less confusing towards the end of the book.

After reading about Jared. I officially think he's a_____(put mean word of choice here). Kay, so he 'loves' Melanie and all that stuff, but even when Wanderer/Wanda was in her body, how could he stand to beat Melanie's body up; looking at the girl's body that you love and hurt her. Ugggghhhhhhhh.

I absolutely hate how this was written. Like pretty the whole book's sentences were like a few words long, as in like 5-6 words long. Example one(came right outta the book): "I wanted my self."
Example two: "Jamie told me no."
Example three: "Melanie jolted to awareness."

I think the 2 decent characters out of this book would be Ian and Jamie. Ian because of his devotion to a 'soul', even when everyone else hated her, and that devotion later turned into love.(: Jamie because his equal love for Wanda and Melanie.

Overall, I'd give this a full 2 stars.
