I picked this book up mainly because I thought the cover was hilarious. I also heard that Eileen Cook is a very funny author.

Helen is still holding a grudge against Lauren for what she did. She wants revenge. I found that her determination to get revenge was a bit annoying. Many people kept trying to talk her out of it too, but she ignored them. I think she was a little too high on her horse and it got on my nerves. She was a bit of an obnoxious character overall.

The whole plot is based off another classic and I could see the resemblance. I don't think it holds anything against the original book though (...read the acknowledgments to find out what book it is based off). At times I was interested in the book and at other times I wanted to rush through. Mainly to find out what happens.

Getting Revenge on Lauren Wood was also predictable. I eventually figured out what was going to happen and wasn't surprised to find I was right. There were a few funny parts in the book and I think the idea was really interesting. I wish it had been written better though.

Overall the book was okay.

This was a great read!
If you loved "Mean Girls" then this is for you.
It has some funny moments and the story line just went great and the characters were realistic.
In high school for me, there were never girls who were like Lauren, but there were these two girls who called themselves The Stephenies and tried to make themselves the mean girls of our school and it shot to hell after some cholas called them out LOL so I've never gone through much of what Claire's (Helen) gone through but I felt for her and I actually liked how it ended. Awesome book! I'll need to read more of Eileen Cook in the future.

GETTING REVENGE ON LAUREN WOOD is a surprisingly engaging read, the classic tale of revenge translated perfectly into the modern high school setting of popularity and backstabbing. With swift, smart writing and a plot that’s never boring, this book is perfect for anyone who loves the movie Mean Girls and/or were floored by the way that Alexandre Dumas set up the intricate and unbeatable revenge plan in The Count of Monte Cristo.

I love when authors successfully write “mean girls” who are realistically a pain in the butt and/or whose actions are justified. Helen’s perfection (and hilariously accurate analysis) of popularity hits all the right notes, from the stinging one-liners to carefully sown seeds of destruction. We all know the character of Lauren Wood, that nasty bee-yotch who deserves to be brought low by the hands of an avenging destroyer. Helen is scarily perfect for that job, the everygirl who’s resourceful and determined to the death, and yet I loved that she also learns a few things about herself along the way.

If your preconceptions about this book are that it is a fluffy chick lit read or a typical addictive-like-candy mean-girl story, well, I hate to break it to you, but you’re wrong. GETTING REVENGE ON LAUREN WOOD is a bitingly entertaining novel with bold characters and an even bolder plot. Indeed, if you love smart teen silver-screen classics such as 10 Things I Hate About You and Mean Girls, you will get a kick out of reading this book. Vive le revenge!

Predictable and kind of boring tbh.

If you've ever had that one person in high school that you wished could be taken down a notch or two - this is the book to read.

This was a good book, but REALLY?!?!?!? Like, why does the “mean girl” have to suffer, even though she is kinda mean? “Claire” was more a brat then Lauren. Seriously. Claire (Helen) is a ‘hole, and then she gets a happy ending? Messed up. But yes, the book itself was great (especially Christopher!) and I couldn’t put it down. :)

This was cute but a little to cute for me. Body on the cover with a knife in the back. I was ready for REALLY snarky and REALLY evil revenge. And while she did have some great plans, I felt it was all still pretty nice, warm and fuzzy.
which is great for a YA book. It did a great job.

just not what I was hoping for.

Getting Revenge On Lauren Wood was just so much fun to read. I was absorbed into the story right away. Really, how could I not be? The opening chapter commences with one of Helen's highly imaginative scenarios surrounding Lauren Wood and a science classroom dissection. The entire scene really set the mood for this book and definitely kept me wanting to know more and more as the story progressed.

When you first meet Helen, she's still not over the fact that Lauren, her ex best friend betrayed her quite some time ago. Helen having been publicly humiliated has never quite healed from the entire ordeal and spends a lot of her time placing Lauren into terrible situations in her mind to sort of live out this fantasy of doing unto Lauren as Lauren did unto her. Then, a change of events allows Helen to get Lauren back for real, in person. With a new name and a plan, she sets out to make Lauren's life miserable.

One of the main things that kept me interested in this book is that I didn't know what to expect. I wanted to see what Helen had in store for Lauren even though as things progressed, I did start to feel badly for Lauren. I did like Helen and I did sympathize with her, especially in the beginning. At first, Helen's set in her ways but there's nice character development on her part. At times I thought she was crazy but the author did a good job of balancing out the crazy moments with the sane and rational.

I liked that this book wasn't predictable. There were quite a few things thrown into the mix that added some variation to the story which I didn't necessarily anticipate but really enjoyed.

There are a lot of books out there that deal with mean girls and Getting Revenge On Lauren Wood does a good job of balancing out the serious moments with some very funny ones as well. This is definitely a mean girl book that is on the lighter side. It's very entertaining and will keep you intrigued the whole way through. I really do recommend it, especially if you want something that will hold your attention and make you laugh.

Helen is funny as hell! Sometimes she strays a bit too close to being unlikable, but then her wit redeems her (and cracks me up).
