Although I still like this title, the idea of eating pieces of human to solve crimes is starting to get a little long in the tooth. I'm glad there are less than 20 issues left in the run.
This is definitely a building block for the series. It's still a really entertaining read, but it gives next to nothing in the way of answers. What it does give is a lot of really satisfying jokes, some mediocre adventures, and plenty of anticipation for the future.
Toni is a joy to read and I loved seeing the way she was used here. There's plenty of new things introduced, though I think the book has strayed a bit from it's roots as a detective book with a supernatural flavor. Now if someone doesn't have a food power, they're mocked. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't hurt the book, it's just given it a much different direction and purpose than it used to have. It's been this way for awhile but it really hit me here.
What this volume specifically has me excited for is the changes coming next. There's been a funk hanging over these characters for awhile, with good reason, but it's exciting to see how they could bounce back and really get back to moving the overarching story along further. The book is a limited run so we know it has a planned end point. As much as I love the book, I hope to see them stick to that and can't wait to see things move toward a satisfying climax.
The art from Rob Guillory continues to impress. It's such a wonderfully weird and unique look that it's hard not to love it now. I can't imagine the book looking any other way and I think that's a real testament to his skills and speaks to what makes Image and some of the non-big-two books so excellent - that sense of consistency.
Anyway, you'd be confused if you started here, but there are plenty of options to get caught up, so what are you waiting for?!

I loved this volume a little more than the others. I feel in love with Toni and wished there was more time with her character.
