This book was 3.5 stars for me. The production of the audiobook was really well done. The premise of the book was intriguing, but I felt like the middle was repetitive and drug out much longer than necessary. I also disliked Daisy. She was selfish and shallow. I would have liked to see her evolution at the end.lilacfoxes's review against another edition

There are so many characters involved in this novel, but they are all so distinctly different from one another, you have no problem keeping them straight. Warren is the comic hero of the story. With all the dark themes, his character lightens the mood.
I started flipping to the back of the book where the lyrics of the songs are printed. Each time they mention a new song, I go back and read the lyrics. I think it helps create a better understanding of Billy and Daisy's actual feelings and emotions.
I absolutely loved reading this book. It was fun and uplifting while also being dark and self-reflecting. I hate this feeling I have connecting with Simone. It makes me sad on a personal level, but I think that's why her quotes stick with me so much.
Check the TWs if you have concerns, but I definitely-100%-recommend this book.

unlike most, i actually really liked the interview format. its good for someone trying to get into reading. no purple prose or long, unending sentences. just dialogue & sometimes thats enough to tell a story. i do think the book heavily relies on nostalgia for the 70s/80s pop band scene but for someone that wasnt even born then i think the book did a good job on setting the tone.
drugs. sex. fame. drugs. alcohol. drugs. did i mention drugs?
again i really did not like the main leads. im not sure if i was supposed to "warm up" to them over the course of the book but i did not. i dont entirely mind it though, its a parallel to the real world how shitty people with enough ego & talent can still rise to the top. daisy was a hot mess through & through. she was not this super slay girlboss that tjr tried to shove down our throats but honestly just pitiful she was so lost, alone & impulsive. she gave a woman written by a man - so hot, so cool & i'll never get a chance except you would bcuz she's high 99% of the time anyways. AND LITERALLY RANDOMLY MARRIED SOME DUDE IN EUROPE I- basically this: “it was like a train wreck, I couldn't look away.” except i could but oh well. she was an entitled bitch too.
billy is a dick. if this was a modern day setting, i bet all the band members would have a gc w/o him. in the book, he's supposed to be a musical genius but i don't buy it 🤨 a shitty husband that hooked up with random women cuz he was so stressed boohoo BUTTTT i did like how the whole rehab situation was written out. oh the karen & bro thing was weird... but im glad she stood her ground (potentially aro rep 🤨🤨) also how this book keeps trying to push this feminism forward image with its female characters but they were either anything but that (daisy) or not even taken seriously by the people around them (karen/camila).
i think i would've liked this more if billy & daisy weren't into each other. everything became all mushy & forced AND THIS MAN HAS A WHOLE WIFE???? AND 3 CHILDREN. i would've much rather read about them clashing when it came to their personality (even tho they're both cunts) & music. even then, i still had fun reading it & honestly that matters much more to me 🧍. like yeah i hated the characters and some portions of the book seemed to be lowkey projecting BUT i finished the book. audiobook was the best part ngl.

This is always my go to recommendation for anyone in a reading slump or anyone who loves the whole 70/80s era of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.
The tv series is one of very few that does its book justice but, I think to truly appreciate this story, the beauty lies in the details within the book.
