Read this so damn fast.
After the first chapter I thought I was reading a collection of short stories. In a way I suppose I was. Jane, our heroine, feels like a good friend - full of dry wit and mild anxiety and a relatable self-consciousness but a bold impulse. I liked hanging out with her for a while.
Okay. I feel so mixed about this novel. I LOVED the first half, and couldn't wait to recommend it to my mom as light-ish fiction that still packs a punch , with great writing. I really liked that each chapter could stand alone as a short story.
But I can't find a reason why the author would choose to write one random, unrelated short story in the middle about Jane's aunt's neighbor! I'd REALLY like to know the reasoning behind it, because I either missed something important, or it was a bizarre decision. Also, the second to last chapter is in 2nd person, again random. These two things really bugged me, as they broke from the style I enjoyed and made me wonder why the author did what she did.

An entertaining chick lit book, but it did spur me to start reading Anna Karenina.
I liked the main character in this book - Jane (why are they always named Jane?). She made me feel like maybe I wasn't alone in my weirdness.
