I got this at our book club book swap and was excited to read it since I never had. I could not understand why this was so popular. Sure the writer had an interesting voice but the story was inconsistent and the characters were not likeable. I almost didn't finish reading it but I kept on hoping it would get better. It just made me feel sad, frustrated and weird.
This book was highly disappointing and not very enjoyable. I hated the way it was written - switching from first to third person. Also, there was one chapter that was put into the book which just didn't belong (about the other family who lived downstairs from Jane's aunt) - it had nothing to do with the plot. Not a good read at all!
Very good - Jane's portions were anyway- didn't really get the other chapters. They seemed like essays the author had written and just wanted to publish somehow. Otherwise, great book with surprisingly insightful views into the life of a single professional living away from an aging family.

Really enjoyed this book. A good compilation of short stories about a woman finding her own. Fast read. Couldn't put it down.

A really quick read. I liked it. I found a lot of it to be pretty humorous and totally true to life. I loved the last couple of chapters when Jane was reading the book on how to get and keep a man. It is so true of how women are told to act now days. At certain times I felt like she was talking directly to me.
Jane is New Yorker attempting to navigate the dating world. It’s told in short stories from her childhood in the suburbs to her current life in New York. She meets and dates both older and younger men in her quest for Mr. Right.
While a few of Jane’s stories were entertaining, and her thoughts were always hilarious, several of the stories just didn’t fit with the rest of the book. I was left feeling blah about the whole thing.
