This book was recommended to me by a coworker, and at first, I was skeptical.... but the title is not truly representative of the content at all. It was cute, and made cuter by the fact that I read it on a lagoon-facing beach house in LBI, NJ (where parts of the book take place!), but nothing spectacular. Save it for the beach.

Listening to the author read this book made the book much better than it would have been reading it in print. The book is a series of short stories -- almost like journal entries -- from a woman's life. The author has a great voice and it really comes through in the audio version. There were no earth-shattering insights here, but a perfectly interesting reflection on relationships. I think most people who were interested in this read it a few years ago, but it'd be a good choice for a long drive if you like audiobooks. The unabridged audio is approximately 6 hours.

A humourous writing style with good dialogue but centered too much around the protagonist's relationships with the men in her life--her brother, her father, the same age boyfriend, the much older man, and on and on. No real meaningful female relationships; no believable character development over the thirty-odd years we follow her life. Not at all what I was expecting.

This one was an easy and enjoyable read. Hard to put into words but one of those stories that’s just about the disappointing reality of life. I related to the overarching theme of trying to figure out who you are and looking for yourself in other people, clearly shown in the last few pages of the book—

“Who did I turn out to be?”
“Who did you think I was?”

I really liked the writing style, especially the dialogue. I don’t really know why but Jane is easily one of my favorite characters. I guess that way she thinks reminds me of me.

This book was so much more than the light chick lit I was expecting. Loved the relationships and how they played out over time.

This is a book about a woman who can only figure out who she is through the men she dates. For F’s sake, the woman even goes through cancer and can only describe it by framing it around the guy she’s dating at the time. No thanks.
