This was short and sweet and just what I needed after reading A Girl Like Her. I was curious to know what happened with Laura after I finished the first book and was happy to find she got a story of her own that was well written and tugged at my heart strings.

This was so incredibly good and I read it all in one day. Thank you Talia Hibbert from the bottom of my heart.

3.85 out of 4 stars!

Talia writes the best characters. Samir was beautiful and I don't just mean physically. Laura was just as beautiful and just as badass. They had so much chemistry and you could feel the love between them.

Technically, I started this last year but about 55% was read this year so I'm counting it as a 2023 read. It kind of feels like cheating, though. Maybe I'll only half count it. We'll see!

Damaged Goods was a good friends to lovers/second chance romance novella with some dark themes. I think the author explored these ideas well, and certain points, while awful, were not gratuitously drawn out. I also read the preview of Hannah's book, so I'll probably be grabbing that soon.

•  a novella of about 200 pages
• FMC Laura Burne, Daniel's estranged wife, escapes to her small seaside home-town & runs into her childhood sweetheart, Samir, surprisingly rekindling this flame
• MMC Samir Chiadi is still navigating his own childhood trauma and nuanced feelings about the loss of his parents
• I love a redemption arc & am so happy Ruth made a cameo; I need more friends like Ruth!
• representation: single mom, blended family
• tropes: second-chance romance
• steam: 3 /5
• cw: intimate partner violence, pregnancy, alcoholism, rape, abortion, toxic relationship
