A great book. Abit cliche at times, but pleasant to read none the less.
This is a simple and elegant fairy tale. My favorite part of Goose Girl is the "magic" elements because the magic system is so unique. The idea of everything having its own language, and being able to learn to speak it gradually over time with an open mind, is a beautiful concept that I found intriguing. It also allows for many variations on Ani's power in the next books without seeming inconsistent with the original magic system.
Shannon Hale does a good job of making the story read as a fairy tale. It has themes of sorrow, joy, betrayal, and owning up to face responsibility and be yourself. Goose Girl is very calming to read, and even at the most dramatic and emotional moments the narrative seems a bit removed from the action just as most fairy tales are. Somehow it makes you feel happy even when things aren't going well for Ani, and you just feel good the whole time. This makes it hard to be truly passionate about Goose Girl, but it is a very good book.

I read this book in one evening - I didn't want to put it down. This fairy-tale retelling was creative, engaging and well-written, with great characterizations. I loved it!
One of my favorite books growing up, this one sparked my love for reading. The magic of the wind, the friendship, the love and heartbreak . I'm so glad this book was my introduction to YA, and I'll never forget the feeling of the wind whipping around me in the backyard during my rereads.

This was lovely. It was a little slow feeling at time, but I wanted to see how the story ended. I enjoyed watching Ani grow, and I will probably read other books in this series.
