I love how the children here were never too adult to talk like the author Laurie Frankel knew how when you speak to your children about how you want them to answer, they would. These children are emotionally intelligent and I looked forward to (albeit predictably) what they would come up with next. This is my first time reading a POV on adoption like this. It's very new and refreshing.

I think my true score for this book is 4.5 stars because while I really enjoyed about the first 80% of it, I found myself less than motivated to finish that last 20% for no particular reason. Without spoilers- it could be that the last bit of the book feels a little more aimless than the beginning, or that overall the book comes off as a little toothless? Or maybe I’ve been a little burnt out on reading lately- or all of the above. I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Anyway, I think this is a very nice book overall and I highly recommend it for someone who likes short chapters, wholesomeness, and equally character and plot-driven stories.

I adored this book. As a parent in a non-traditional family, the characters resonated with me. The text is also ultimately about how love is complicated and simple all at the same time when it comes to family
