It was a bit slow at the start, but the begin was good. Glad there's another book because the end was a bit of a cliff hanger

Love the premise. Some elements were a little frustrating (characters sometimes behaving inconsistently), but the writing was lovely. Looking forward to seeing where this story goes.

i finally got round to reviewing this lol

i first noticed this book absolutely ages ago, enticed by the beautiful cover, but i was in a very non-fantasy, only contemporary reading phase and scoffed at its description (lmao what did i just write?). i was then recommended it by my friend who had really loved it, but still i said no

I wasn't sure how much I liked this at first - I went from giving it 4 stars to 4.5 to definitely 5 - but it ended Strong. (not that 4 stars is bad...) I love how everything slowly unravelled and how Leora reacted to everything she'd ever known falling apart around her, and I really like how the book ended, the decision she made. So much character growth!! The world building was intriguing and fascinating, too, and I'm excited to see more of it in the sequels. Everything about this was beautifully crafted <3

Good story with a unique plot. It was just lacking something that didn't make cling onto the book. I'll probably continue with the series, regardless.

Predictable plot but somehow the main character manages to roll a critical failure on insight every single time. Not recommended.
