This was my first audio novel (free from Apple) and I really enjoyed it. I’m not sure I would have read the book otherwise, but it turned out to be interesting and far more believable than any modern crime/detective/spy stories I have read. It is plot-heavy, and Hannay receives negative points for colonialism and the Boer War, but I enjoyed following his escapades.

7/10. An enjoyable adventure but I confess I can’t quite understand the hype. The best parts are running and hiding in the Scottish moors but they felt a bit derivative of Stevenson’d Kidnapped. Then the ending somehow feels both abrupt and a little mundane. But a fun swashbuckler to while away a few hours.
