Graphic: Death, Antisemitism
Despite it being short, this felt slow and repetitive. I can see how it might have influenced the genre and it was fine.

Holds up surprisingly well for a book over a century old. Could have done with more resolution at the end but it’s par for the course with books in this period.

I was a bit taken aback when the protagonist - for the third time - stands on a flat moor, congratulating himself on being able to see everyone for miles around, and is then shocked and horrified to realise that people can also see him from afar when he stands in the middle of a flat moor. And also his pursuers have a plane.
The antisemitism is grotesque and only partially refuted in the story. Very partially. Also, the few names and sentences in German are pretty much entirely incorrect.

I know some people say that it's melodramatic foolishness, but honestly, I have a soft spot for this book. It is a bit implausible,(a lot actually), but I enjoyed it. Plus, I love disguises, so that was a big plus.
