I don't really understand the amount of negative reviews on GR about this. The claims seem to mainly revolve around the fact that it was highly melodramatic and too implausible. I thought that, in light of the fact that it's a hundred years old, it holds up incredibly well. A lot of it feels particularly contemporary considering its age. It's exciting, well-written, and has a hero who is easy to root for. It's also an incredibly quick read that many overlong modern thrillers could take a cue from.

Not my typical read. Hannay was an enjoyable least. His detective and deductive reasoning skills were very appealing and kept me interested. I feel like I was curious what would happen versus feeling suspense. I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat reading, but rather perplexed and delighted in seeing the consequences to Hannay's decisions.
