First book not of the city watch series, and of course unsurprisingly I enjoyed it. Wasn’t sure where it would take me, but it’s comforting to know I’m in the hands of someone I trust will make the journey enjoyable regardless!

Mort explores fate and identity as Death’s apprentice disrupts destiny, learning that growth comes from responsibility and accepting life’s messiness. A bit convoluted at times so not my favourite of Pratchett’s novels.

I was encouraged to try Terry Pratchett as I am an avid Douglas Adam’s fan. I can see the comparisons between the two but this book felt more surreal for the sake of surrealism and didn’t have the same satirical tinge as in Adam’s work. It also felt a bit too simplistic in its plot and prose, and a lot of the main characters came across as quite one dimensional. I am intrigued to try more of Pratchett's work but not sold on it yet.
