After loving the first two books in this series, I was a bit apprehensive going into Taken By Storm, because I was just thinking, would it live up to my expectations? After Bryn overcame the challenge to her role as Alpha, and leading to Maddy leaving the pack, she's worried about what will come next. When Callum rings and lets her know that rival Alpha, Shay, would be calling a meeting of all of the Alpha's, and she needs to be ready. When it's announced that there's another Rabid on the loose, and Maddy might somehow be involved, Bryn has to use everything she has in order to protect her pack, and herself.

I did enjoy this book, but found myself sort of skimming over some bits of it. Everything was very serious, and full of angst and drama, so it was a hard book at times. I enjoyed the drama, for the most part, but some bits felt a bit too long, and could've been dealt with a lot quicker. Unlike a lot of reviewers, a thing that happened in this book didn't bother me too much, because I kind of sort it coming, but for a finale to a trilogy, I still have some questions and disappointments.

I will come back and write a better review later but for all those who read the first two books and are so psyched for the conclusion: beware.
I love everything I have read of this author and I do suggest reading this for the sake of finishing the story but be prepared to rage at the author. The first book in this series got me hooked and the second was really good too. The first third to half was good, unfortunately it felt like the author gave up on her characters and this is one of the least satisfying endings to a story I have ever read.

Opening sentence: "I ran as though my life depended on it."

Taken By Storm is a success!

Taken by Storm follows the feisty and fierce Bryn as she continues her journey as the Cedar Ridge alpha. But, once again, trouble follows. Bryn is still battling out Shay's cruel intentions, and if that weren't enough, she also has to check on the threat of a rabid wolf killing innocent people.

The series is fantastic. I think I will always love the first the most, but with that being said, I have noticed that each book does seem to get better. The ending surprised me A LOT. I would be lying if I said I didn't shed a single tear...I balled my eyes out. Actually, I kind of hate the author right now...or I would have if she hadn't attached the "sweet" to the "bittersweet" ending of the novel.

I really hope this isn't the end of the series. At first, I thought it might be a trilogy. But, now in the last fifty or so pages I have seen so much potential for another in A Raised By Wolves series.

Beautifully written, the best YA werewolf series in the world. Jennifer Lynn Barnes you have made my day again, Thank you! Though the ending was very, truly, desperately sad. When it got to the last few chapters my heart felt like it was a stone (a heavy one) and it sank. Though I couldn't shed a single tear, I still felt so depressed. But, this book was still an epic finale! I stayed up 'til 12:00 in the morning because I couldn't put this book down. The ending will shock you all!

I enjoyed the first book when it came out a few years back and since the rest of the series weren’t out yet, I’ve left them on my TBR list for quite some time. Now that I finally got the chance to read book 2 and 3, I realized that I should have reread the first book because there were a lot of things in book 1 that laid out the foundation and background. Obviously it’s been years since I read the first one that now when I went to read the rest of the series, I realized there were a number of things I was missing out on. I really need to stop doing this to myself – reading the first book then waiting years to get back to the rest of the series. I always end up being semi-confused for at least half of the book I pick up next.

That being said, I did enjoy the series and while I wasn’t a fan of the ending, it was realistic and it made a lot of sense to me. I just wish things could have been for the better but at least Bryn managed to get rid of someone who had been plaguing not just her but all female Weres in the US. I did find her a little dumb at times but I do have to give her credit for being able to earn the respect of the Weres in her pack despite the fact that she’s human and is weak compared to them. I still thought her train of thought to be quite slow which is why she is always outmaneuvered by Shay until she finally used her brain to get around him. Unfortunately she did that a little too late and there were casualties.

I really like Chase and Devon and was actually rooting for Devon and Bryn instead of Chase and Bryn. The romance between them was so subtle that it was easily overlooked. It wasn’t until Shay pointed out the fact that Chase was Bryn’s mate that it became clear to me that they were actually together. I wish the relationship between the two was a little clearer instead of muddled and implied. And when both of them leave Bryn’s life at the really end of the series, I was sad. She no longer had a mate or a would-be mate anymore. I think this is one of the few series where the female main character doesn’t end up with the guy. I guess that makes it unique…but still.

Overall, I liked the action in the books. I especially liked Caroline just because she’s so badass and a trained killer. Lake was also a badass female as well. I think Bryn was the least interesting character in the book, to be honest. The side characters shined past her. If you’re interested in reading about a different take on werewolves and magic, give this series a spin.

Series note: particularly enjoyed that the romantic relationship, while pivotal to the plot, didn't become a subplot in itself.
