Long time since I've read this.

Cons: It's a big book and a lot to take in.

Pros: Everything else!

Just an incredible story with so many characters and multiple worlds. I've always been hugely impressed with the imagination that Clive Barker has to come up with a book of this magnitude. This is an amazing achievement and well worth the investment of time. Highly recommended!

My favorite book. I’ve read it three times and wouldn’t be opposed to a fourth one day.

BOOK REVIEW⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"This was the substance of every moment, she realized: the body - never certain if the next lungful would be its last - hovering for a tiny time between cessation and continuance. And in that space out of time, between a breath expelled and another drawn, the miraculous was easy, because neither flesh nor reason has laid their edicts there."
-Imajica by Clive Barker

Now if you have been following this page for the past year it should be obvious by now that Clive Barker is in my "Top Three Authors of All Time" list. If you are new here or did not know that; Clive Barker is in my "Top Three Authors" if All Time" list.

How do I begin to describe what it was like for me to read one of my favorite author's masterwork? The answer to that question is very simple: holy shit balls Imajica was fucking great!

Imajica is a incredible  genre stretching, explicitly queer, and conceptually unrivaled fantasy novel.

Clive Barker is a wizard with the English language. From the first page and onwards I was left breathless and shocked.
Imajica is a fascinating twist on urban and epic fantasy. Using his trade mark twisted scenes and gorgeously written erotic sequences Barker kept me excited, scared, and nervous to turn each page.

There are very few authors that I have
wreak who can write erotica in such a detailed way that even the smallest molecules and souls are examined.

Clive Barker's characters are also a major plus. Both the human and non human and nicest to the vile characters are incredibly believable.

Clive Barkers imagery is like a wonderful and terrifying dreamlike journey in the author's imagination and mind. Clive Barkers poetic verse is beautiful and complexe.

The plot for Imajica is amazing.
.
The plot (bare minimum version that really says nothing at all for the plot)
Imajica is the whole of creation and dimensions. Imajica consists of 4 interconnected "Dominions" (dimensions) and the exiled Fifth Dominion : Earth. When the age of reconciliation (in-which the exiled Dominion can be reconnected to the Imajica) comes for the exiled Fifth Dominion, the lives if two humans and a shape-shifting master assassin alien intertwine to unknowingly fulfil the unwanted Reconciliation.

Gentle: A master art forger whose life is like his art; a lie.
Judith: A woman who drastically effects the lives of men. Once lovers with Gentle their lives intertwine in the wake of a traumatic event
Pie-O-Pah:Gender-less shape-shifting master assassin who has been hired by Judith's ex-husband to assassinate Judith.

When the three meet memories of trauma, magic, live, and the Imajica itself.
Imajica is a novel of apocalyptic weight and oppression, magic and love, and the acceptance of trauma and betrayals.
.

If you want to add a gay author unto a list to read I will always suggest Clive Barker.
If you want to read diverse and inclusive epic fantasy Imajica is the best novel for you.
If you want to experience fantasy in a whole new light or experience, Imajica will be perfect for you.
Clive Barker is a incredible openly gay author who I can never suggest him enough.

(This review is for the whole of [b:Imajica|567704|Imajica|Clive Barker|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5174SHZPKKL._SL75_.jpg|1371342], since it really is a single story.)

I liked this book tremendously. It has a very unusual take on the messiah story, and many likable characters. The language is absolutely inspired in places. It does sprawl a lot, which counts against it, but I didn't mind too much.

If you've read his Books of Blood, the Damnation Game, the Great and Secret Show, and Weaveworld but haven't gotten around to Imajica yet, turn off your computer right now and get out there and get it.
This is Clive Barker's masterpiece. Earth is part of a dominion of five other worlds, and the only one unaware of the others. This novel is about the reuniting of Earth to the other four worlds. Again, this is horrific, beautiful, mind-expanding.
An incredible feat of the imagination...this is one of the few novels I will read over again. Am I gushing over this? You bet.

What a lot of people might not know is Clive Barker is an excellent fantasy writer and while some of the fantasy he writes as elements of the grotesque it is by no means horror. He is an excellent writer and wonderful story teller. This was probably the first book of his I read and while it is enormous it was amazing and remains my favorite of all his books.

I feel silly adding all the books of my angsty youth. Yet they do make up a part of me. Barker included.

Imajica is a book that I received in a book holiday exchange about two years ago. I honestly knew next to nothing about this but was very excited when I got it. Mostly because I just suggested to give me a book that the person enjoyed. The only thing I regret is not reading it last year but at least I can say that I finally knocked it off of my TBR.

Now I'm just going to say this, it's a huge book that deserves to be slowly devoured. Which is what I did. With so much going on, I didn't want to misunderstand anything or forget something important either. Of course, there was still a lot to keep track of and my brain did get confused for a time or two. I'd like to blame this all on my horrible work schedule intervening into my reading one.... but I don't think that's truly it. Well, maybe a little bit.

In the end, I'm really happy that I dove into this. Pretty sure it's my first book of Clive's and I'm hoping it won't be my last. I'll take any recommendations too! Whether it's another one of Clive's books or a book that is sort of like this one by a different author.
