Not my fave NR book or series. It took a while to get into the book because it honestly felt like the kitchen sink of paranormal tropes were being thrown at me - vampires, sorcerers, time travel, modern day witches, Damon Salvatore-esque vampires, multi dimensional worlds, shape shifting...When that sort of settled down I kind of got into the plot, the theme of them training and resolving personal grievances to prepare to fight Lilith the OG vampire bad lady.

Meanwhile, as this is NR, I'm waiting and watching this books romance develop between modern day witch Glenna and time traveling sorcerer Hoyt, and its a struggle to believe they fell in love. More often than not, Hoyt is dismissive or demeaning of Glenna's ideas and powers. I believed Glenna's feelings for Hoyt, but when he was suddenly in love with Glenna it didn't feel believeable. Everything felt rushed, including their
wedding which was indeed rushed

I think of all the characters I'm most interested in the third book, which is Moira's book - the queen from another world - alternate Wales or alternate Ireland maybe?

So Ill keep going, mostly just to get to book 3. And because I do want to see Lillith destroyed after what she did in this book. See content warnings.

On a funny note, this book showed its age when Hoyt traces a pentagram tattoo Glenna has on her lower back - ringing that early 2000s tramp stamp era!

Heat level for this book is moderate - on page sex, not overly descriptive, more flowery as is NR's style

CW: violence, on page death of side characters, on page sex, on page alcohol use, off page death of a parent, a "white savior" situation, off page gang violence, there is a child vampire who may have a sexually intimate relationship with their vampire mother figure? its hard to tell what the insinuation was or was not there.
