Finally finished! It took me so long to read this book. I was so interested by the blurb but this book really did not grip me in the way I thought it would, which is disappointing.

This was not a bad book, I just didn't find it very gripping. I got distracted while reading and often times didn't feel like picking it up because I knew it would be a slog, I'd read one or two chapters and be bored of it.

Perhaps someone who prefers a slower pace will enjoy this book more.

Plot had promise, but I didn’t enjoy the characters’ voices. Working on my new “life’s too short to finish books you actively dislike” approach.

DID NOT FINISH

Three chapters in and I'm DNFing. The writing in this book is atrocious. The jokes are not funny, the author is trying way to hard to make the book/characters seem "cool." From the reviews it only gets worse. Don't waste your time.

I received an Advance Reader copy of Afterland via a GoodReads giveaway.

3.5 stars.

I think this is actually my least favorite of Lauren Beukes' books - I still really enjoyed it, but it didn't have the same depth as her previous work.

Was almost a DNF. I wanted to like this book. I see that they were trying to write a coming to age book during a post pandemic apocalypse like future. However, the way that it was written just wasnt for me. I had no investment into the characters. The multiple points of view weren't used properly so we're distracting rather than helpful in telling the story.

I best describe it as Y The Last Man but written by a woman. Well done, understood premise with great use of perspective changes.

This is beautifully written. The characters are just so incredibly hopeless and desperate (which is appropriate to the theme of the book) that I couldn't bring myself to keep going.

This book really stayed with me when I finished it. I couldn’t stop thinking about the characters. It’s a pandemic book, so be aware of that. But it’s irreverent, interesting, and colorful.
