I really don't like quitting once I start a book, but I just can't take this anymore. Does all of it even mean anything? Who puts hashtags in a novel? Will the people who read this in a hundred years even give a fuck about this story?

It's so typical and pandering, too, to write a story where men are wiped out. Like, isn't that what all women are supposed to want? Duh. This kind of storyline pisses me off, like it's some sort of revenge fantasy, like you're supposed to want the opposite sex to die so you can take over the world. Bullshit.

Maybe I'm stretching it, but that's what this sort of storyline feels like to me, and I'm just not into it.

Anyway, I don't feel completely comfortable reviewing a book I didn't finish, but I was so bored through what I read of it, I figured it was worth a shot trying to save someone looking through the reviews from that fate, hopefully before they buy this book, though it is satisfying to know I'm not the only one who hates it.

why does this synopsis sound like "Y- The Last Man"?? is it just me??

This is one of those books where I really enjoyed all of the component parts yet was left feeling that the whole wasn’t the sum of them. I could well reflect on the book and change my rating, but at the time of reading I struggled with parts of it.
The setting of a post apocalyptic world where almost all of the men are dead felt like a very interesting concept to explore and it was gracefully handled. The relationship between the mother and her survivor son was really beautifully done. The characters were very well realised and felt convincing throughout. The errant sister is a very complex character and again works flawlessly. And yet... somehow, with all of these things going for it, I didn’t enjoy the reading of it as much as I wanted to. I have a feeling it might have been a case of the right book at the wrong time for me, which is a real shame.
