Let me start off this review by saying I am not religious by any means and don't particularly like the idea of organized religion and the power imbalance that it holds and exploits in today's society.  That being said, I enjoyed this much more than I was anticipating. Pope Francis seems to be what my ideal of a religious leader would be: humble, open-minded, respectful and tolerant. He has lived through, experienced, and seen many horrors of the world, yet his faith and hope remain intact. I will say, for a biography called "Hope" parts of it were much darker and somber than I was expecting.

I know his health is not well right now and I just hope that the next pope will be as tolerant towards all the people of this world as it seems Pope Francis is. Although not for me, I know religion brings peace and hope to many people and I want religion to grow with the world and the times to be a more inclusive and supportive infrastructure for anyone who wants to participate.

My one gripe is that it is a bit misleading for this to be called an autobiography when it was really more a biography written from his point of view based off of his help and several interviews.

Pope francis talks about his activist heart, his concern and love for the regular people, the ordinary people like us.

Truly inspiring. I am not a practicing Catholic, but the Pope’s story resonated with me on every page. His humility and genuine compassion show through in all facets of his character. The world needs more Pope Francises.

I don’t know if they will ever find a Pope like him again, but I hope they do. He talks about the history of his family and his own activism. He also describes in great detail the activism of his peers and it was all very touching to hear. He also held the Church accountable consistently throughout the book. It could feel fragmented at times but it was a great listen regardless
