A decidedly short (by Kings standards) novel about determination, primal fears, and the need for even a touch of humanity.

I liked this, quite a lot. I think it touches a lot of the fears that many people will have. Being lost and alone, and having to rely on just your wits.

And, I like Trisha. She's really easy to root for. Although, I do think that she's surprisingly sardonic for a 9 year old, even a tall one.

Love King but this book was not my favourite. I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone wanting to read it though.

Found this book by chance in a charity shop in France. I knew nothing of the story but as it was written by King and was a hardback (my preference) I bought it and I’m glad I did.  I found it a gripping story that had me feeling both anxious and in awe of the protagonist’s strength and determination. Their journey was intense, and I was completely invested in seeing how things would unfold. The tension was real, but so was the sense of admiration for what they endured. A 5 star read for me—definitely a great story.

the unknown has always been something that has frightened me- the woods being one of them. similar to the ocean, there has so much of the woods that has yet to be explored (by me at least). following trisha go through very raw and humane emotions made the story feel tense. we notice the immediate transformation that takes place within this young girl as she is fighting to stay alive.  the growth and adaptability of the human body is incredible. the mind has a way of contorting reality when it is scared and deprived of its needs.

the only issue that this book had was that it felt sort of unrealistic. trisha is a nine-year-old girl who reads as though she is 20. she is extremely malnourished  and walks  miles upon miles while suffering from multiple health conditions. each day she miraculously “recovers” and the cycle continues.

if you can get past all of this, you will enjoy this book. quick read!
