I really enjoyed the cultural and women-in-business aspect of the story. It drew attention to those common issues without getting too soapboxy.
But there were a lot of little elements that felt unrealistic and unbelievable. Jess's business took off immediately and just kept going, so when she would get upset about hitting a hurdle, it felt whiney because she already had 15 other things lined up or in the works. She had so many amazing connections and opportunities handed to her constantly and it didn't feel like she actually had to work for any of it. There were several mentions about how difficult it can be to start a business and how long it takes to start seeing a profit, but the time-skips kept me from feeling it. Instead it felt like everything just kept falling in her lap and snowballing. Some of the dialogue also felt too detailed and unrealistic, especially when it came to talking about food.
The "romance" was too fast and based solely on physical attraction. They never talked, jumping straight from frenemy banter to making out, and then Jess would get upset because she hadn't been told something when they had never communicated. When their moment of big conflict finally came, I felt like Jess overreacted, (partially because, as mentioned above, it didn't file like a huge problem). But then she forgave him just as quickly. Not to mention Daniel was missing from huge chunks of the story altogether.
Lastly, I didn't love the narration on the audio book. It was very clear and articulate but a little flat/robotic. I had a hard time telling character voices apart, and I never knew when Jess was thinking something vs speaking aloud.

I mean - she literally blocked him on her phone, but then when they meet again, he just says, "trust me" and she did! Which he deserved to be trusted but it made her seem so melodramatic and wishywashy.Lastly, I didn't love the narration on the audio book. It was very clear and articulate but a little flat/robotic. Need a new book to add to your collection? Try Suzanne Parks book So we meet again. If you like a quick fun read, then I would pick up this book. So we meet again follows Jessie Kim on her journey to finding her passion and learning to gain self-confidence all while working alongside her childhood nemesis & potential lover Daniel Choi.

I know I just complained about reading audiobooks, but here I am eating my words. Reading this made me realize I can read romance books in audiobook format; fantasy is still a different story.
I listened to this over the past two days and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it read more as a Chick-lit book than a romance. The main story follows Jess as she picks up the pieces of her life after being fired from her Wall Street finance job. It was for the best anyway because she was overworked and undervalued. When she is fired she overhears why because “she’s already being overpaid anyway for a woman” and “Asians are worker bees, not someone who can drum up new deals.” She rebuilds her life by starting a new business based on the ideas she had in her old YouTube channel.
Daniel is slightly secondary to the story, a lot of the reason why he is in the story is he has a lot of business connections which help her to flourish. I would have liked more romance included, but in this case, I really enjoyed reading Jess’s comeback story. As someone who is young and still feels very lost right now, this was comforting to me. It made me feel like even if things don’t work out the way I want them to, I’ll still be okay. Maybe even better than just okay.
