A very enlightening book that I would recommend to anyone interested in reading into the Israel-Palestine conflict and particularly the history of Palestinian oppression by the Israeli state. The editing is the only element that didn’t fully work for me, as I didn’t find the overall structure to flow very well and there were several phrases and paragraphs repeated throughout (word-for-word), which felt disruptive as well.

Can’t say I recommend this as an audiobook, I think it probably holds up better as a book. Both men, but especially Chomsky, have a habit of speaking in a very elevated style and it can mean you have to focus more while listening. But the content was interesting and I enjoyed it.

really great tho i took months to finish it lol. like after my diss i really needed a break from this topic bc it just kept making me depressed.
this book also kinda makes me depressed bc its from 2014 and nothing has changed. chomsky and pappé seemed to have hope that things would change by 2020 but unfortunately not much has.
the situation has continued and gotten worse. israeli military technology has gotten better and more effective at oppressing palestinians. but the bright side is that more people are opening their eyes to the realities on the ground. theres a lot more activism and conversation around this topic at all levels.
however much of the censorship is not getting better. just looking at the west w their pro-israeli policy and their weaponization and misuse of anti-semitism, people have to fight and sue to keep their lives the same just because they’ve spoken up against anti-palestinian racism and for human rights. pro-israel lobby groups are strongly affecting western government policies (looking at the anti-boycott bill about to become law in the uk) and the many smear campaigns against academics and university students who support palestine in an attempt to label them as anti-semites.
anyway, this is one of the issues and topics that i am 100% willing on cutting people out of my life for. its not even a question. there is little excuse to being intentionally ignorant in this day and age.
