Important read to those who seek to understand the tension of the Israel and Palestinian conflict and how it was before it escalated in 2023

Would consider this a solid ADDITION to the discourse on Palestine. (Chomsky & Pappe are prolific on the subject, but I have a hard time giving it a full 5 star, as there is no Palestinian voice represented in these pages discussing their own liberation.)

Glad I read this now, as I have (somewhat of) a foundation for events / policies they discuss (creation of BDS, Zionism, the one state vs two state “solution”, etc.) I enjoyed the format: starting with a series of convos between Pappe & Chomsky, followed by a few essays. It’s short, but full of depth. And yes, it’s from 2015 so some may call it dated. But I find it incredibly devastating that it’s still as current as ever, as we’re witnessing the same crimes still being committed today.

“The fact that Israel actually benefits from violating international law and receives “red carpet” treatment from the West means that we all have a role to play in ending the injustice that the Palestinians are facing.”

i felt like it was my responsibility to learn more about palestinian history as someone who is horrified by the war in gaza right now. this book was an excellent introduction, and i found it incredibly interesting and informative. i cannot wait to read more about palestinian politics and its relationship to israel.

An important dialogue on the Palestine cause. Helped inform and centre my thoughts on the current catastrophe, although I wonder how much this conversation has evolved since the ongoing genocide.

Everyone should read this book!!!!!!!

An important yet difficult read.

Unfortunately didn’t meet my expectations in any way.  First part of the book is a transcript of conversation with Chomsky and Pappé, and the logical flow is not always consistent. There are some typos and many areas that would have benefited from being rewritten for clarity.

It’s devastating how all of the arguments in this book are still relevant 10 years later.
