This book was subpar for such a vast and important topic. The introduction and Chomsky’s final chapters are incredibly moving, however I believe there are many other sources that cover the topic in a way that reflects the current status of things much better, without the sympathy for the same people that are committing the horrible acts being described.
full disclosure: i falsely assumed this book would be an ideal introduction to the topic, and since i had little to no background information, a lot of things went over my head. it was a short but dense book and while i learned a lot of things about Palestine and the Israeli occupation, i didn't love the structure of the book. it would have worked better for me if the articles came first, followed by the conversations (which should have also been edited a little better, some sentences were convoluted).

Informative, accessible, timely. A must read for anyone who wats to start educating themselves on the situation in Palestine.
I read On Palestine after it was suggested as a first read to learn about the history of the Palestine genocide. Personally, I didn’t find it the most helpful as a beginner. It seems there’s just so much to learn. It’s quite a short book so I plan on circling back to this after reading The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine. I watched a TikTok compilation of chapter summaries of The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine. Since then, the history is starting to make a lot more sense and I feel more prepared to read it once it comes in from the library. All that to say, I’m not going to rate On Palestine since I didn’t have the necessary historical context at the time to really understand the material. I will re-review at that time.

“You have to ask what the consequences are going to be for the victims. That should be the highest priority all the time. Tactical decisions are important. They are not trivial. Human lives depend on them.”
Quite a broad overview with several repetitions in-between Pappe’s and Chomsky’s essays. Definitely not a book to get started on the topic of Israel’s settler colonialism and aggression, as it requires some background knowledge.
