I loved this mystery. But there was a lot of characters and I did get confused between them at points. The book lead you on a big police mystery only to find the answer was there all along. I loved it!
Who's more likely to commit a murder? The Indian colonel and his wife? The mother and son with suspicious motive? The newly arrived twins? The ditzy friend?
A Murder Is Announced takes these questions and answers them in the most delightful of ways. A mystery with a twist, it sees Miss Marple arriving at Chipping Cleghorn just in time to be caught up in an investigation into murder that comes with a twist that only she can figure out.
Delightfully written and expertly crafted, Christie gives her audience something to read on a rainy day in summer without the guilt. Love this book.

Just re-read my first Agatha Christie in years and years. Margaret is reading a "Miss Marple" for her Destination Imagination team. I read every single book of hers when I was younger, and she has stood the test of time.

Whenever I'm in the mood for a light, fun read, Agatha Christie is my author of choice, and she (almost) never disappoints. This was no exception; I enjoyed myself enormously and I can even pat myself on the back that I was able to get the murderer right this time around. I admit that I didn't quite understand the mechanics until Miss Marple explained them herself, but I'm going to count this one as a win anyway!
I really appreciated that Miss Marple was quite present in the story in comparison with a couple of her novels where she only appears towards the end. Without spoiling anything, I also thought the mystery itself was very well done. The premise is compelling from the start: why would a murderer announce the time and place of a murder in advance? Perhaps one of the most peculiar aspects is that, as readers, we don't just wonder about the identity of the culprit, but also that of the intended victim. Is the dead man a collateral casualty or the real target of the criminal? So many questions!
My only complaint is that, other than Miss Marple herself as well as Miss Blacklock (the lady in whose house the murder takes place), I found the cast of characters to be slightly lackluster. Even if plot tends to prevail over characterization in Agatha Christie's whodunnits, as expected of the genre, she often manages to sneak in a lot of amusing or otherwise intriguing individuals anyway, but that wasn't really the case this time. The young people were especially underdeveloped, which in turn made me less invested than usual in the resolution of their side plots, and the police detectives didn't particularly stand out to me either.
Other than that, however, I had a fantastic time and I'm always glad to read whatever Agatha Christie feels like writing about.
