A great plot, engaging with twists and unexpected ending. Perfect feast for mystery/thriller lovers.

Solid AC. Ok, not one of the faves of hers I’ve read, but deff better than other mystery novelists. Twists and turns abound. First Miss Marple mystery, I’ll give her another go, but I think I’m more of a Poirot boy myself

4.5

I liked this book way better than I thought I would

I had a lot of fun trying to find out who the killer is, and even when I thought I knew, Christie never fails to surprise me!

I haven't read a lot of Miss Marple, but I've enjoyed each one I've read. This one was no different.

I really enjoyed the cozy feel of the mystery, and the way we didn't know for sure that anyone was who they said they were. I did figure out who did it fairly early in the book (which doesn't happen often). I also wished we saw Miss Marple more; she didn't enter the story for over a hundred pages and despite being the one to piece it all together in the end, she wasn't the main detective we followed.

★★★★★

A fun, twisty addition to the Miss Marple legacy.

To date, this is one of my favourite Christie novels.  I can picture the village of Chipping Cleghorn clearly in my minds eye and each of the villagers were written with enough detail to become part of the story.  To me, they never came across as bystanders or story filler.

I particularly enjoyed the conversations between each of the villagers as they saw the advertisement in the local paper, dissected it and made the decision to attend what they thought was going to be a "murder party".  Here is one of my favourites:

"Mrs. Swettenham: People don't announce murders! Marriages yes, but not murders. Put that dreadful paper down, and have a look.

Edmund Swettenham: [Reading the Daily Worker] It isn't a dreadful paper.

Mrs. Swettenham: You're not even a worker!

Edmund Swettenham: I'm writing a book!

Mrs. Swettenham: I mean real work."

I did not correctly guess the murderer although looking back, the clues that Christie sprinkled throughout point the reader in the right direction.  I enjoyed how Miss Marple was introduced and was not surprised that she immediately knew that something wasn't quite right!  She is quickly becoming my favourite Christie detective.

Apesar de ter sido uma ótima leitura, o livro só me prendeu mais no final mas gostei bastante do livro :))

Delicious game of false identities, inheritances and long lost relatives. Slows down a lot in the middle with some repetition and a little forced ending - otherwise solid Marple mystery.
