I got to the part where
Sylvie takes off her shirt in the elevator and the guys act like sharks smelling blood in the water.
I was worried that scene was going to lead to an assault scene so I googled it.
That scene doesn't but my googling does indicate there's a graphic scene coming up.

I really don't think media needs to portray that in any detail, I really think it can be as impactful or even more impactful without it. I was really enjoying this book but I can't continue any further knowing that's coming.

I think the reason this didn’t fully work for me was because of how it was marketed. This was marketed as a thriller, but the pace is much too slow for that. And while there are two timelines, one of which is a thrilling saga of a group of people trapped in an elevator together, that’s the less interesting of the two timelines, and most of the time that one took me out of the story. However, the timeline in the past was excellent, with great character work, and an intriguing, easy to root for lead.

This book is just pure fun. If you’re looking for a genuine, realistic, heart-pounding thriller this is probably something you should skip, but if you’re looking for a fun, quick summer read check this one out! I hesitate to call this a psychological thriller as there is no big twist coming that just blows your mind, but it would make a good mystery. This is told in alternating POV’s, it flips back and forth between current day with the coworkers in the escape room and talk of the past from a former employee. Is it a groundbreaking tale? No, but it’s a fun summer read whether you’re on the beach or having a rainy day. The writing is simple and smooth and will have you compulsively reading to the end to see what happens. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities to the characters and there is not a whole of depth to them but this story kept the pages turning. If you’re looking for a page turner to turn your mind off of current events I would definitely pick this one up!

I enjoyed this book until the end. I found Sara a compelling character. I grew to care about her and especially enjoyed her chapters. It did feel sometimes not like a thriller but an insight into what it’s like working in a high powered job on Wall Street but I didn’t mind that. I still found it interesting. The elevator scenes were tense especially since I’m very claustrophobic and can’t tolerate elevators. This whole experience was reading about my worst fear come to life!! Still, the fear made it even more gripping and hard to put down.

For me, this book might have been a five star until the end. I’m very good at suspending disbelief but even I just couldn’t buy into the turn of events. The ending left me cold because it was so convoluted. But still, overall this book was worth the read. I’ll definitely be checking this author’s other books out.

Vincent, Jules, Sam and Sylvie are high-flyers in the cutthroat world of Wall Street finance. They'll do anything to get more money. They're called into an empty building on a Friday night under the guise of a compulsory team-building escape room exercise. These four ruthless individuals have to set aside their rivalries and work together to solve the clues that will release them from the elevator. Tempers fray and the clues aren't getting any easier. The final puzzle for them to solve - which one of them is a killer?

Ooh! This was fantastic! The very beginning grabs you and doesn't let go until the very end. It goes back and forth between four money/power-hungry people who work crazy hours and will do whatever it takes to keep living in the lap of luxury and Sara Hall who, once upon a time, worked with these people. What happened to her?! Both stories were excellent. They were so thick with tension. I didn't get far into the book when I just wanted it to be over - I couldn't stand not knowing anymore! Sara Hall tried her best to fit in and do a good job while also trying to do the right thing. I really liked her. She was thrown so many curveballs and worked so hard to overcome everything and stay on top. I hate to say this, but the last little chunk of the book when things unravel and we figure out what's going on is when the author lost me. I'm so disappointed I couldn't give this five stars, but it was a hell of a ride anyway!

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of this book.

*4.5 It wasn’t perfect but it was an absolutely incredible book. Lots of suspense and plot twists. A every man for themselves kinda book.
