This was a refreshingly unique thriller, largely taking place in a financial management firm! I loved every second of my listen.
I recently read The Night Swim by Megin Goldin and gave it four stars. I thought it was extremely well written and enjoyed the podcast element. My major issue with that book was that certain things were not fully explained and I was left with answers to things. In The Escape Room I feel similarly. I was fully engaged as I was reading it and found the alternating chapters engrossing. I wanted to know why these four professionals were locked in an elevator together. However, I found certain plot points unbelievable. If certain characters are supposed to be so smart I found random parts to not make sense. I am not sure why they were written the way they were. For me I think The Night Swim is the stronger of the two books but I would recommend this one as well.

3⭐️ When 4 coworkers get stuck in an elevator that they were led to believe was an escape room, how long will it take them to crack under pressure? Will they make it out alive?
While the twist was good, the book was too drawn out and slow paced for my liking. So this one landed at a middle 3 stars.

DNF at chapter 5.
No...just, no. I've read Harry Potter fanfictions written by teenagers that are better written than this.
What a wasted opportunity on such a cool theme.
A few things:
1. There's no mystery who's behind whatever mess happening in the book, or even why (although just a general idea), as long as you read the table of contents and the first "Sara Hall" chapter.
2. Say it after me: Character profiles should not be directly used in the story.
3. How many times can the author describe a Wall Street banker's swanky outfits in detail without it getting boring? Zero.
4. If I want to know about the inner workings of Wall Street, I'd have read a non-fiction.
5. More showing, less telling.
For a better example of corporate team building escapade gone wrong, I recommend Jane Harper’s Force of Nature.
