Jude made her move and it did not pan out the way she thought it would. Now exiled into the mortal world she is attempting to adapt to a world without magic. Attempting but that does not mean that it is working, when Taryn arrives and begs Jude for help. Switching places as they have done in the past Jude returns to Elfhame for what she thinks is a short period of time. As she begins to learn the plans of the stepfather she knows that she can no longer return to the mortal world. She must protect Cardan and she is willing to do whatever it may take.

I could not wait and did not want this book to end while I was listening to it. I tried to pace myself because I knew that I was going to be bummed when it was over, but I failed at the pacing part. The third book in the series was by far my favorite. I loved every single second of this book and I know I will be relistening to it again in the future.

Jude, may now be one of my favorite FMC. It was interesting to see her as slightly more defeated, at least initially this time around. I think that her experiencing being defeated allowed for her to grow and change more which allowed her to find her own strength. For a character that has been reliant on themselves it was nice to finally see her get the support and love from some of her family members. I think Holly Black did an incredible job of writing Jude, from the beginning to the incredibly strong character that she ends up as.

I had many different emotions while listening. I was extremely untrusting of Jude’s family and was very concerned about her ability to trust and rely on them again so quickly. I was annoyed and frustrated by both Jude and Cardan because I just wanted them to be together. I was extremely sad and disappointed when I did not think I was going to be able to get the ending that I had hoped for. Even with the roller coaster of emotions I would not have changed a single part of this book.

I have not touched much on the political aspect of this series really at all during any of my reviews. Generally speaking politics are not my thing. Holly Black did an incredible job of building the world of Elfhame and the governing world that exists there. I loved how all the different magical beings created treaties and worked together. I really enjoyed how she took a world that was primarily ruled by men and slowly but surely began flipping that governing body to make it more female led. Reading through the changes and the support that the female characters were able to get from the male characters was great. I also liked that there was the contrast with the male characters that wanted the men to remain in power.

With fast pacing and chapters that varied in length this was a book that I could not stop listening to. I am sad to be done with this series and will greatly miss the world of Elfhame and l look forward to when I get to revisit it again in the future. If you enjoy faeries as well as political conflicts and intrigue this is definitely a series that you should add to your tbr. In addition to all of that there are incredible relationships and a romance that you will be rooting for from the first book.

Have you read The Queen of Nothing? What did you think?

I can attest that the hype is real and can see why this is seen as the gold standard of enemies-to-lovers. The political machinations were really well written and kept the stakes high, while the romance is so slow and sweet that rooting for it was inevitable.
