I watched the first season of the show and was so excited to read the books. Honestly the subject was good but it was difficult to get through this book. I'd often fall asleep, which is uncommon for me, and found 50 pages often took an hour. I'm not sure if it was the writing style or it was just dense. Overall, I started out so excited and now I have the 2nd and 3rd book but probably won't read them.
2 stars because I really wanted to like it.

One of the better Ann rice books. Must be before she fired her editor. Would probably make modern readers heads pop. Wild. Of a time. Gothic lady, problematic fave

The history gets a solid 4 stars. Present-day story gets 2.5 stars. Overall better than Interview.

one of my favorite Anne Rice books!!!

This is Anne Rice's best novel. It's a masterpiece of modern-set Fantasy. I don't even really enjoy most of other Anne Rice books at all... But is I loved to distraction.

My only warning is that it's long winded, and not very action filled.

What the actual fuck.

What a wild ride of a book. I loved the history of the Mayfair family , I found that absolutely captivating and I wanted more!!! But I really didn’t like Rowan especially towards the end . And the ending with Rowan and lasher? WTF!!! A total rollercoaster of a book
