This book was too dark and nasty for me. I don't usually read Anne Rice, but decided to give her another try. I was not able to finished this book as of yet. I stopped in the 600s where the story really became more horror than fiction.

Parts of it were very uncomfortable. I also felt like all of part 2 was just a book about home renovation.

I thought this was really good. It takes a hot second to get going, but I think it’s worth sticking with it. My favorite parts of the book are the Mayfair files section and the ending. For a small section towards the end of the book I felt a strong sense of dread and I wish this was more prominent throughout the book, especially the ending with how the end is sort of open. That might of just been me, though. Considering the contents of the book and repeating history/foreshadowing, I probably should have felt more dread. Another thing I really liked was when Michael realized he had become “the man.”

I read this for the first time a few months ago. This book is absolutely brilliant. I had been a fan of the vampire chronicles for years, but I'd been hesitant to cross into Miss Rice's world of witches. Boy, am I ever glad I did. This is probably her greatest achievement. Epically written in the style of truly classic literature, a reader of more refined tastes will revel in every rich, decadent detail. The elaborately detailed history of each witch of the Mayfair family could have been a novel unto itself, and it proves that Ms. Rice painstakingly researches every tiny aspect of the periods in which she sets her characters. This tome is quite hefty at almost 1000 pages, but it's one of the rare books that I really never wanted to end.
Had it not been for Audible I don’t think I could have sat down and read this book! I lost track of the times I had to back up to figure out if or what I missed. And the sections with all the back story .. OMG soooo boring. Not sure I’ll continue the series. Maybe I’ll just watch the series on MAX!
I got on an Anne Rice kick in college and read quite a few of her novels, including the Mayfair Witches series, the Lestat books, and "Cry to Heaven."

Una historia fabulosa. Una prosa melodiosa. Unas tramas que me tenían comiendo las uñas. Un final que me pide el siguiente libro. Sin duda una obra maestra. Increíble.
