The Witching Hour

Anne Rice

3.8 AVERAGE

Rice has such dense novels. This one was gigantic. I attempted the audiobook (50 hours!). I couldn't find it in me to like any of the characters. It got to the point where I wasn't sure why I continued to push on. When I ran out of time to finish around 75% I gave up. I read spoilers for the end and was pretty sure it would have turned me off the book even more. So I may attempt this at a different time. Perhaps will watch the series in 2023 to see if they handle it better. But we'll see.
adventurous

This was actually a well written story, albeit a bit long-winded and an abrupt end. Rice does an excellent job of transporting the reader to New Orleans with her descriptive language. And there are plenty of plot twists to keep the story edgy.

An interesting story but too much unneeded information. It took the fun away from the book - I felt tired at the end of it.

I somehow had the patience for this drivel when I was 13 and thought I was going to be a witch when I grew up. (I wore a black velvet cape. I burned incense. Fuck off. I am not ashamed.) This is a long boring book about a bunch of obnoxious shallow sex obsessed bitches. Get the hardcover, it makes a better doorstop.

At about 10% I realized I read the whole series a long time ago. At 20% I decided I didn't need to read it again.

tbh i should dock more stars because of the unironic usage of "Porn. Walking porn." to describe michael curry

This would have been a five star book if the last 300 pages of the story were as captivating as the first 700. The history of the witches was absolutely amazing but when the story switched back to present day I just wasnt interested.

Done. Finally. Took me 9 months. Great story at the beginning and middle and devolved into who knows what at the end. I will not be reading the other two books in this series.
