I spent the month of October avoiding all things stressful by delving into this 900 page book. Despite the insane and unsatisfying ending, it was time well spent and perfect for autumn changes and darkness.
Hit me up when they novelise the show and add a little extra backstory to that canon. The reason why AR hated fanfic was because they did her characters better than she ever could. I would feel bad for the fire if I threw this into it.
I am amazed that I committed to a 50 hour audiobook. At times, it was enjoyable. At times, it was a slog. I loved the research collected by the Talamasca about the Mayfair Witches. It was vibrant and magical and captivating. I found the actual Mayfair family members were portrayed to be the exact opposite. They were flat and dark. Rowan is the culmination of her rich heritage, and the strongest witch of them all, but she is written to be standoffish and without personality. After 30+ hours of listening, I was invested! I wanted to see the passion of her ancestors bleed through. No spoilers here, but the end of this book did not satisfy the build up and bulk of the book.
55 pages of nothing happening except sprawling and seemingly irrelevant backstory of people of unknown importance
This is 4th time I have read this book since I was 13. I still find it as intricate and beautiful as I did then. The characters, the world building, and the interconnectedness of all of her books is astounding. My only complaint is that Anne Rice didn't develop this series further in its own right. While I do love The Vampire Chronicles this is in my opinion the superior series.
I hated this, it could have been letter if the pervious knowledge had been part of the story but it just dragged and the content of incest is not for me...
I was named after Rowan Mayfair, so I’m probably always gonna have a soft spot for this book. This was my second time reading it and I loved it more than the first. I love this world and the way Anne Rice writes the history of the Mayfair witches. It’s just all-encompassing and a riveting story, and I’m excited to finally finish the trilogy.
Wow ! I can’t believe I waited this long to read this book. I can say that reading it after visiting New Orleans was an amazing experience . I’ve always loved Anne Rices writing style but the details of NOLA took me back to my vacation.
Part two the history of the Mayfair witches is where the book really takes off and boom you are so invested in the story . Worth the read ! I know it’s long but it will pull you into the story and you will want more

Maybe if I had this version displayed on goodreads then I would have known this was a lusty romance novel that was a bit scary. Would I recommend it to others? No. Too much pornographic sex.
I liked the Mayfair history, but I despised Rowan, Michael and their stupid, dumb relationship. I wish Lasher would have bound them to an anvil and had thrown them into the sea. And as many other reviewers also said: way too long. I was glad I was finished, couldn't wait until I finished the last page.
