I had to read this for my Frankenstein class, and it's actually a really intriguing read. It's a modern retelling of Frankenstein set in New Orleans...Actually it's not really a modern retelling, it's more of a modern continuation. The Victor Frankenstein you meet in Mary Shelley's novel is the same you meet here, just 200+ years later.

It was really interesting. Probably not the best written thing I've ever read, but compelling for sure. It's basically Frankenstein + Criminal Minds.

Maybe it would have worked for tv, but it was a snorefest of a novel.

This book is so much absurd fun. If you're looking for art you are in the wrong place. If you want every monster movie trope packaged with an undercurrent of humor then this is where you need to be. I enjoy a classic or a cerebral thought piece, but my favorite has to be the, humeriously self aware, full on bat shit crazy, over the top works. This checked all of my boxes while using source material I couldn't stand. I hated both Victor and the monster in Shelly's book, but here I am enjoying their lack of self pity. A while ago I said a villain was out dated. I was wrong. Sometimes watching a villain rise, knowing they're going to fall is deeply satisfying.

okay i see the vision. the problem is that dean koontz is not quentin tarantino despite how much he tries to convince himself of it. this is like the 3rd book in a row of his where he makes a character with autism secretly know the secrets of the universe please dean leave them alone

Quick and exciting read. Interesting story of what if Dr. Frankenstein and his monster were still alive today...what might the doctor have been up to in that time? Definitely not a stand alone novel, and there was a creepy twist to the ending that makes me both eager and terrified to read the next one.
