600 pages is way too many but wow what a story. I’ve been interest in Margaret Pole since Jane Yolen’s Bloody Mary book.

Phillipa Gregory is my favorite historical fiction writer. She manages to bring historical figures back to life and make them appear so human and real. As if I'm stepping back in time and witnessing a dangerous world through the eyes of its inhabitants

I have greatly enjoyed this series about the Wars of the Roses, as told through the women of the times. This final book brought the story from young Arthur Tudor through the turbulent years and first 5 marriages of Henry VIII. HIghly recommended.

This is the final chapter in the Cousin's War series, though it overlaps with her Tudor series. I found Gregory's interpretation of the life of Margaret Plantagenet Pole very fascinating -- I've wondered about her perspective on her life and situation for years, as her fortune alternates, both rising and falling. I liked how Gregory chooses to see her a survivor who clings to life. "The one thing I would have taught him...is to never weary of life, but to cling to it. Life: at almost any cost." (p. 487)

Really interesting perspective on this part of English history, an inciteful focus on the religious strife and how it affected people of different stations, as well as Tudor court from the view of someone on the edge of it's privilege.

Philippa Gregory does it again.

The story of Margaret Pole, granddaughter of the Kingmaker, royal cousin, and a women who saw many kings & queens come and go is told in wonderful detail. We see history thought the eyes of a women who loved fiercely and who was loyal to family at her core.

If you enjoy historical fiction and especially that of Tudor England be sure to read this latest volume by one of the genre's best.
