While the story was trite and really exploited ST and the exact WRONG WAY to deal with someone living with PTSD, the writing was just atrocious. If I never have to hear “darted out her tongue to wet her lips” or “slanted my head” or “butterflies in my belly” or “all _____” etc again. I feel like a fifth grader wrote this. This author needs a thesaurus—possibly even a new gig. Glad this one was free.

okay so I thought I'd be rating this much higher but after finishing and thing over everything again I decided to leave it at this
this is not your typical small town romance, it dives into deep trauma and the trigger warnings should be taken seriously
on one hand this was a long book so I was listening to the audiobook but the narration was kinda not in tune with the feelings specific scenes should be giving and it was underwhelming so even playing it at 2x speed was actually better, on the other hand I feel like if I was reading the physical book I'd have felt like the book could definitely have been shorter than it was
the heroine had built up trauma for her whole life and its totally understandable that she needed time to come around and trust again but sometimes she could get a bit annoying 😅
the hero was such a green flag, always making sure he doesn't push more than she allows but the way he always came back and tried to talk to her again and again that one day at the book shop when he went to help out was so sad to see 🥲 we all deserve a reed ryan
it was kinda weird how when the mmc went back to his parents house after 3 years of not talking when he started to argue with his dad about their family problems and then suddenly started to talk about his love life problems? 😭 like hold upp
while I feel like it could've been shorter at some parts I'd have loved for the ending to be a bit more drawn out instead tho
also I'd love to read about Peters story one day I'm sure it'd be an emotional rollercoaster

Where did you meet your significant other? OR where would you like to meet them?
My husband and I met randomly at a bar. He was terribly sunburnt, and I annoyed him by talking to him so he brushed me off. Apparently, I am persuasive and when I tried again, he was agreeable…and we ended up talking hours that night. You’d think he’d ask for my number…but he didn’t! Luckily, we both found ourselves back at the same place the next time and never left each other’s side after that.
Emma has an engrained mistrust of people, especially cops. So, when she’s flees a horrible situation and takes refuge at her grandmothers house, she is frightened to find out its some sort of refuge for first responders. Reed is hot, but everything Emma shies away from in men. But as Emma and Reed get to know each other more, Emma slowly begins to see that not everyone is out to get her, and some people are genuinely good.
I found this one in the Audible Premium Plus catalog. It seemed right up my alley and long enough to last a few days. I expected this one to be a dark romance, and when I got into it, it wasn’t really dark in my opinion. Sure it was deeply emotional, but it wasn’t what I consider dark. Maybe my favorite dark romance bookstagrammer can help me out here (paging @april.always.reading). I really did enjoy Emma’s character, and her obsession with heels got me. I just wish there was more…something with this one, I just found it lacking and not what I expected. However, it was a solid book.
